Micah True went off alone on a Tuesday morning to run through the rugged trails of the Gila Wilderness, and now it was already Saturday and he had not been seen again. The search for him, once hopeful, was turning desperate. Weather stoked the fear. The missing man was wearing only shorts, a T-shirt and running shoes. It was late March. Daytimes were warm, but the cold scythed through the spruce forest in the depth of night, the temperatures cutting into the 20s. For three days, rescue teams had fanned out for 50 yards on each side of the marked...

Searchers on Saturday found the body of renowned long-distance runner Micah True, who vanished four days earlier after heading out from a lodge for a morning run in the rugged wilderness near New Mexico's Gila National Forest. The body was discovered in a remote area of the Gila Wilderness, state police spokesman Lt. Robert McDonald said. The cause of death was still unknown, but there were no signs of trauma, incident commander Tom Bemis said. "It's too early to say, there was nothing obvious," he told the Boulder Daily Camera. The 58-year-old True, whose extreme-distance running prowess is detailed in...

I used to run a lot...in my younger years. In the mid 90s I was running 20-25 miles every sunday afternoon, and around 10 miles the other days of the week. It all ended in '96 when I developed knee problems and iliotibial band friction syndrome, snapping hip syndrome, and chronic tendonitis of the iliotibial band, and also serious problems with the muscle attached to the iliotibial band...and a few other things like ganglion cysts in my feet and meniscus issues with the knees, and some other stuff. I went to doctors. I took pills, took supplements, did strengthening excercizes,...
Obama running out of money?

How they campaign is how they govern and vice versa. So it should come as no surprise that political pros are beginning to wonder if President Obamas campaign is running out of money, even though he is unopposed in the Democratic primaries. Last week he brought in Bill Clinton to help him raise money. Ouch. Obama is Justin Bieber hoping to be saved by N Synch. Follow the money. I did. Barack Obama sure is spending a lot of money: $63,236,869 through January 31. That left him $75,953,128 in the bank. He already has spent 45 cents of every...

Thirty-six athletes from 17 countries braved the sub-zero temperatures to complete the 26-mile race at the bottom of the world. The start line for the race was at the Union Glacier Antarctic base camp in the southern Ellsworth Mountains, just over 60 miles from the South Pole. Ahead of the race, every competitor had to have their skin fully protected from the sub-zero temperatures. Clothing included a full balaclava, goggles, gloves and mittens, long johns, waterproof running trousers and several layers of thermal clothing. But the harsh conditions are all part of the appeal of the race. "I guess there's...

Fox Valley Marathon winner Tim Cunningham crossed the finish line while barefoot in downtown St. Charles on Sunday morning. He didnt lose his shoes along the wayhe ran the entire 26.2 miles without them. It was kind of a perfect day to run, said the Charlottesville, VA resident, whose race time was 2:56:24. The bridges were a little rough, a little slick at times, but it was good.It was the 15th marathon for Cunningham, who spent the past year building up calluses on his feet. He started running barefoot when he could not afford five-toe running shoes; though he can afford the shoes now,...
Paul Ryan Not Running for President

Wisconsin congressman Paul Ryan has decided for a final time that he will not run for president in 2012, THE WEEKLY STANDARD has learned. Ryan, who began seriously considering a bid in late May after Indiana governor Mitch Daniels took himself out of the race, had consulted with top Republicans, including Karl Rove and Frank Luntz, as he contemplated his political future. And though many of those he talked with told him he would be a viable candidate in such a fluid race, even as a late entry, Ryan ultimately decided to continue his focus on debt and entitlement reform...

Washingtons Ghost Is Accepting Applications © 2011 by Anthony James Many of my recent articles have revolved around the themes of Sarah Palins unique qualifications, and the fact that the RINO Right, the Liberal Left, and the Lamestream Misleadia were about to launch an all-out assault on The Tea Party. This article is just as timely, but should be seen more as a call to arms. In another earlier piece I wrote called The Price Of Freedom are these words: Where, before, the battle was waged on the frozen hills and fields of Lexington and Concord, and across the swamps...

Revelation: The Arc Of The Candidate

With the release of director Stephen K. Bannons movie The Undefeated this weekend come a number of unanticipated revelations. That the movie opened with as strong a showing as it did in all of its test markets is a minor revelation, given that it was going up against predictable summer blockbusters like Transformers and "Harry Potter. Another revelation that surprised many theater owners, and the members of the press who attended these showings, was the pandemic phenomenon of the entire audience at virtually every venue rising from their seats and giving the film an extended and enthusiastic standing ovation as...
Sarah Inches Closer

Sarah Inches Closer© 2011 by Anthony James Sean Hannity just had Sarah Palin on as a guest with whom he discussed two approaching deadlines. One was the arbitrarily set deadline of August 2 whereby the Democrats are trying to twist the arms of the GOP, forcing them to raise the debt ceiling... basically, demanding that we give the junkie more smack. Palins answers and general approach to the situation were, as usual, spot on. Her suggestions that the GOP not blink, and instead demand that our chief executive actually lead on this issue by coming up with a plan to...

On the plains of New Mexico, a band of elite marathoners tests a controversial theory of evolution: that humans can outrun the fastest animals on earth. THROUGH THE BINOCULARS I see them: nine tiny men in bright jerseys running in formation across the vast short-grass prairie of eastern New Mexico. They're chasing a tawny pronghorn antelope through the crackling stalks of late summer's fading wild sunflowers. The buck weighs about 130 pounds, like the men racing after it, but that's about the only thing they have in common. The pronghorn is the second-fastest animal on earth, while the men are...

Almost any politician in America follows tried and true patterns when dealing with the media. They alert the media of an upcoming event, the media shows up, photos are taken, cameras roll. Sometimes questions follow. And then the media goes home. But not Sarah Palin. Palin alerted the media of the first stop on her northeastern road trip: Rolling Thunder. But after some event organizers expressed displeasure at her attendance on Friday, her staff refused to comment about the appearance, and some reporters wondered if shed even go. No time was given the event lasted from 7am to 5pm....

The tick-tocking sound in Afghanistan is time running out for Team America - and the enemy knows it. It's not only Beltway pundits who have picked over the fine points of President Obama's fuzzy July 2011 Afghan troop withdrawal target date, it's the Taliban, too, from Kabul to Kandahar and Khyber to Karachi. Never mind that Obama and Army Gen. David Petraeus have hedged on that date, promising any pullouts will be "conditions based."

| People might think they're crazy, but barefoot runners, even those who pursue punishing marathons sans shoes, say that freeing your feet from the confines of a sneak is just as God and nature intended. "It's kind of like trying to explain a sunset to a blind person," said Rick Roeber, the Midwest representative for TheRunningBarefoot.com,... He compares walking and running in shoes to typing with gloves on. It's just not quite right. "You have to try the experience to understand," he said. How can Dems extend Bush tax cuts while running against Bush?

The big strategy for Democrats in the midterms is to run against George W. Bush, even though he hasnt been President for almost two years. Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid hope to use a little misdirection away from their failed economic policies by claiming that Bush policies were so bad that Democrats couldnt fix them. However, the centerpiece of Bushs economic policies were the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts that will expire at the end of the year, and now Democrats want to extend at least some of them, and perhaps all of them, in order to keep from making...

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) said this weekend that he is "absolutely" running for reelection next year. The Louisiana governor, who has sometimes been mentioned as a GOP presidential candidate in 2012, said he fully intends to seek a second term. "I'm absolutely running for reelection," Jindal said during an interview with a local NBC affiliate. "You know, there's been a lot of speculation: would I run for another office, would I go to Washington, D.C.? I'm interested in helping to lead our state."
